Amazon Affiliate Commissions Work

Affiliate Link Tracking:

When someone clicks on your Amazon affiliate link, a cookie is placed in their browser. This cookie tracks the user’s activity on Amazon for a set period (usually 24 hours).

Qualifying Purchases:

Any purchase the user makes within the cookie window, whether it’s the specific product you linked to or something else, qualifies you for a commission. This applies to:

The product you directly linked to.

Any other product the user buys during that session, as long as they don't clear their cookies or use another affiliate's link before making the purchase.

Earnings:

You will earn a percentage of the total sale value, according to the commission rates set by Amazon for different product categories. Even if the user buys multiple items, you'll earn a commission on all of them.

Example:

If someone clicks on your affiliate link to the main Amazon homepage, browses the site, and eventually buys a TV, you’ll earn a commission on that TV purchase.

Important Notes:

  • Make sure that your affiliate link is correctly formatted, and that you comply with Amazon's Affiliate Program Operating Agreement to avoid any issues with your commissions.
  • If the user returns the item, the commission will be reversed.

Using affiliate links to the main domain page can be a useful strategy if you want to capture a broad audience who may be interested in a variety of products.
